May Brings 'Rush Hour' on the Railways

by isleofman.com 21st April 2010

Railway buffs take note!  There will be a 'Rush Hour on the Railways' in May, organised by the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure.

The 3-day Steam Railway event, taking place from 1st to 3rd May 2010, will see more journeys added to the normal timetabled service.

There will also be special trains such as the ‘Maria’ 34 Diesel tram and an engineering train running on the tracks.  Steam locos will be turned around, visits to the workshop and signal box will be possible, and there'll be an evening meal and film show at the Sefton Hotel.

Crossing point scheduling and a photography evening will provide excellent photo opportunities throughout the three days.

David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community Culture and Leisure, comments, "Rush Hour on the Railways provides a great opportunity to witness and experience the halcyon days of the Islands Steam Railway."

Tickets are already available for the event and can be purchased from the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal in Douglas.  For further information visit http://www.iombusandrail.info/ or call (01624) 662525.
