Minister's concern over squash courts

The minister for the newly created Department of Community, Culture and Leisure hopes the decision to give the lease on the squash courts at Onchan Park to the Western School of Dance won't have a detrimental effect on the sport in the Isle of Man.

David Cretney became involved in the debate after being contacted by people within the squash fraternity who were concerned by Onchan commissioners' choice of tenant.

He says he told them the decision lay with the local authority, but agreed to make representations on their behalf on the basis that it could be harmful to the sport.

Mr Cretney says he respects the outcome of the commissioners' vote on Monday and hopes an agreeable way forward can now be found:
