Virtual Godparent at Peel Baptism!

by isleofman.com 21st April 2010

An unusual Baptism ceremony took place at St German's Cathedral on Sunday 18th April.

A godparent at the baptism of Frank Christian Kelly, son of Ellen and Chris Kelly, was unable to reach the Island because of the travel disruption caused by the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland.

Ellen’s brother, Graham Christian, who now works in Shanghai, saw his travel plans to return home for the ceremony cancelled.

Then, it was decided that an audio visual conferencing link could be set up, with a latop next to the font; this enabled Graham to observe the service via webcam and fully participate in making his promises as a godparent!

Graham hopes to meet his new nephew Frank in the near future.
