Suspicious item found on beach

by isleofman.com 21st April 2010

Coastguards are praising two people who got in touch with them after finding a suspicious object on Laxey beach.

The item was discovered using a metal detector and was treated as possible unexploded ordnance.

It was inspected by coastguard officers, declared harmless and removed from the beach.

But it's being stressed the people involved did exactly the right thing when they contacted the authorities.

Anybody who finds a suspicious object in such circumstances should dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Officers are trained to investigate and identify such items, and can immediately involve Royal Navy ordnance disposal teams if required.

The object on Laxey beach was found at lunchtime on Tuesday.
