Advice for Island residents who can't get home

by isleofman.com 20th April 2010

The Manx government says anybody from the Isle of Man who is stranded abroad should seek help from British consulates and embassies.

A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office says if you have a passport issued on the Island, you are a British citizen and are therefore entitled to help.

It points out the vast majority of Isle of Man residents are British citizens and can rely on the widespread presence of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The advice is to log onto the FCO's website website fco.gov.uk, or ring its helpline on 020 7008 0000.

Anybody who needs the number of a British embassy or consulate can contact the Island's passport and immigration office on 686396.

The government says it's continuing to monitor the effects of the cloud and travel disruption, and will post the latest information on its gov.im website.

The cloud of volcanic ash has moved slightly, allowing authorities to reopen parts of British airspace.
