Cannabis dealer sent to prison

by isleofman.com 18th April 2010

A man and a woman who were caught in possession of ?5,000 worth of cannabis have appeared before Deemster Doye for sentence.

Twenty-one-year-old Michelle Emma O'Hay, of Leigh Terrace in Douglas, received six months custody suspended for two years.

Twenty-three-year-old David Nicolas Callow, of Empire Terrace in Douglas, was jailed for 18 months.

Both admitted possessing the drug, and Callow also pleaded guilty to being involved in the supply of cannabis resin.

The court heard three small pieces of cannabis resin were found during a search of O'Hay's flat, which she said were hers and for her own use.

But a rucksack found in a cupboard contained seven bars of cannabis resin, each weighing nine ounces, and 21 lumps were found in another bag.

O'Hay told police the rucksack belonged to Callow who had left it her flat.

Callow was arrested at his home where more cannabis and drug paraphernalia were found.

O'Hay's advocate said she was only charged with one offence of possessing a very small amount of cannabis and suggested she should be fined.

Callow's advocate said he had previous convicitions and had clearly gone off the rails. He was now remorseful and had become a father, which gave him something to look forward to on his release from prison.
