Post mortem reveals cause of woman's death

by isleofman.com 15th April 2010

An inquest has heard that an elderly woman died of smoke inhalation.

The body of 92-year-old Elizabeth Ena Thorn was discovered at her home, in Westmoreland Road, Douglas on Good Friday morning.

Coroner Alastair Montgomerie heard her body showed signs of singeing, but a post mortem determined the cause of death was asphyxiation as a result of inhaling smoke.

Mr Montgomerie paid tribute to a woman he described as 'well-known and well-liked' and who remained 'feisty, active and independent' to the last.

The inquest was adjourned to allow police to complete their investigations.
