by isleofman.com 14th April 2010

Press reports in the United Kingdom claiming the risks of mephedrone have been exaggerated are being rejected by those battling the drug on the Island.

According to the reports, the 26 deaths attributed to the so called 'legal high' in the UK were, in fact, caused by other factors.

On Mandate today, South Douglas MHK Bill Malarkey, who spearheads the Manx government's drug and alcohol strategy, said he didn't believe the dangers of mephedrone had been hyped (play audio file):

Two one-hour public seminars on the latest 'drugs of concern' are being held, today (Wednesday) and tomorrow.

The first is at Ramsey Town Hall this evening and there will be another tomorrow at the Philip Christian Centre in Peel.

Both start at 7pm and admission is free.
