Me and Orson Welles (12A), the hit movie which was largely filmed in the Gaiety Theatre, is the latest feature to be shown by Films in Peel, tonight (Wednesday 14th April) at the Centenary Centre.
The movie, directed by Richard Linklater, stars High School Musical star Zac Efron, Claire Dane and British newcomer Christian McKay.
Based on a factually inspired novel by Robert Kaplow, Me and Orson Welles tells the story of a bright-eyed teenager who lands himself a role in Orson Welles’ now-legendary production of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar at New York's Mercury Theatre in 1937.
The film combines a warm-hearted coming of age story, an insight into theatre production and back stage antics, and a nostalgic trip back to 1930s New York, with a great soundtrack of period popular music and jazz including Gershwin, Porter and Ellington.
Christian McKay was widely praised for his portrayal of a young Orson Welles and received a 2010 BAFTA nomination as best supporting actor.
The Gaiety Theatre doubled as the 'Mercury' and was later chosen as the location for the movie's Island premiere in November 2009, which was attended by the director and stars of the movie.
Due to limited release, this is only the second time the film has been shown on the Island - so don't miss out.
