Kettle fire a real warning

by isleofman.com 10th April 2010

Firefighters are urging people to make sure all electrical appliances are turned off when not in use after spending an hour and a half tackling a blaze caused by a kettle.

A passer-by spotted smoke coming out of the letterbox of a property on Head Road, Douglas, at 5.30am on Saturday.

They alerted the fire service, which forced its way into the unoccupied building and put out the fire, which had started when a kettle burned out.

A fire service spokesman says all electrical appliances should be turned off at the socket at night.
