Former Packet ferry to be scrapped

by isleofman.com 8th April 2010

It's the end of the line for the SS Manxman, which is to be broken up after years of languishing in dry-dock.

The company in Sunderland which owns the former Steam Packet ship says she will be scrapped later this year.

But there is some good news, as Pallion Engineering says people will be able to buy parts of the well-loved ferry.

Julie Robson of the Tyne and Wear-based shipyard says there might even be the chance for visitors to board her one last time, if asbestos removal work goes well.
