Ramsey Commissioners launch the ‘X-erscape factor’

by isleofman.com 4th April 2010

The ?30,000 cost of the scheme was met by the Commission in partnership with the Department of Local Government and the Environment which provided a grant of ?7,780.  Installation was carried out by the Commissioners’ own workforce.

The equipment is suitable for ages 12 and over, each unit featuring a simple step-by-step user guide, the sequence in which to use each piece, and how many repetitions should be achieved, depending on the user’s level of fitness.  Manx Sport and Recreation sports development officer Gianni Epifani said: ‘The adult exercise equipment recently installed in Mooragh Park offers a fantastic opportunity for northern residents to safely improve their fitness and wellbeing in a very pleasant environment.  It would be good to see other local commissioners follow Ramsey Town Commissioners’ excellent example of utilising local green areas to offer fitness equipment accessible to the local community, and the subsequent health benefits this will bring to the area.’

Ramsey Town Commissioners’ chairman Sylvia Beattie said: ‘Mooragh Park could not be a better setting for this wonderful new equipment which offers a superb way of improving fitness levels for all ages and abilities. The Commissioners are extremely grateful to the Department of Local Government and the Environment for their support and our workforce are to be congratulated for installing the units so swiftly and with the minimum of disruption.  ‘It is most encouraging to see how many people, in the few short weeks since it has been in place, are using the equipment which is a most welcome addition to the range of attractions in Mooragh Park.’

Mooragh Park also features a boating lake, BMX course, skate park, children’s play area and interactive water feature, sensory garden, putting green, bowling green, cafe/restaurant, refreshment kiosk and tennis courts.  In addition a ?140,000 drainage project has recently been completed, which included the construction of three new outfalls into the lake, while later this year the roadway running through the park will be resurfaced.
