Crowds expected in Peel for beach baptism

by isleofman.com 4th April 2010

It's Easter Sunday, and across the Isle of Man people are celebrating the most important festival in the Christian calendar.

Churches of all denominations are holding services to mark the resurrection of Christ, and the second annual Baptism on the Beach is being staged in Peel.

Last year, hundreds gathered on the town's promenade to see 20 people go through the total immersion experience, at an event which included readings and musical performances.

Bishop Robert says such spectacles are part of the very fabric of Christianity (play audio file):

Start of Baptism on the Beach: 3pm.
