Jersey follows IOM health lead

by isleofman.com 2nd April 2010

The United Kingdom government is set to face more pressure from a Crown dependency over a Reciprocal Health Agreement.

Buoyed by the grass roots campaign in the Isle of Man, which has seen its agreement extended by six months beyond the proposal termination date, members of the States of Jersey (the Island's parliament) have called on their chief minister to reopen negotiations with the UK.

Senator Alan Breckon has tabled a motion proposing that Senator Terry Le Sueur should, in conjunction with other ministers, negotiate a new deal.

The move comes a few days after a report by the House of Commons Justice Committee criticised the way the UK government handled the scrapping of the old agreement with Jersey, which came to an end on April 1 last year, and its attempts to end the one with the Isle of Man.
