A generous bequest has led to scanning equipment from Nobles Hospital being gifted to a hospital in Romania.
The late Mr C J Martin and his wife left wishes that their estate to be used to assist medicine for the public of the Isle of Man.
Eddie Teare MHK, Minister for Health and Social Security, in liaison with the Trustees of their estate, Mr Robert Jelski and Mrs Daphne Crompton, subsequently agreed to the purchase of both a new Computer Tomography (CT) Scanner and angiography equipment for Noble’s Hospital.
The old scanner was then dontated to the Florian Isle of Man Charity, who have sent the equipment to Romania.
Florian Isle of Man arranged the loading and dispatch of the old CT Scanner to the Oradea region of Romania, an area that members of Florian visited with aid last year.
The old scanner will benefit the people of Oradea and the surrounding areas. Two Doctors travelled from Romania to the Island last year to view this kind donation, which they are sure will assist them and other Doctors with early diagnosis.
The Minister commented, "I am very pleased to confirm that the new CT scanner has been installed and is working extremely well.
"The old scanner has been removed, and in agreement with the Trustees of the C J Martin Settlement, has been donated to the Florian Isle of Man Charity who have co-ordinated the donation to Romania."
Mr Bill Taylor, a haulier from Lancashire, who undertakes visits to countries like Romania for charitable agencies each year, carried out the transportation of the unit on 27th January 2010.
Transport to and from the Island was supplied by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, who have very generously assisted Florian on previous missions.
