Custody likely for driving while disqualified

by isleofman.com 31st March 2010

Sentencing on a woman who parked her car next to an off-duty police officer while she was banned from driving has been adjourned for reports.

Twenty-four-year-old Jennifer Clare Bruce, of Malew Street in Castletown, admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance.

The court heard the officer was parked outside the Co-op in Castletown Square on March 12 when he saw Bruce, who he knew was banned, pull up beside him and get out.

He called for an on-duty police officer to come and arrest her.

The prosecution said Bruce was banned for five years in July 2005, when she was caught driving nine days after she had been put on probation by magistrates for a similar offence.

Bruce told police she had bought the car a couple of days earlier and was having a test drive, ready for when she got her licence back.

Deputy High Bailiff Alastair Montgomerie warned her custody was likely.
