The chairman of the passenger group TravelWatch hopes the Isle of Man is moving towards a Smart Card system of payment for journeys on public transport.
Brendan O'Friel was speaking as the Transport Division of the Department of Tourism and Leisure published a new fare structure for the bus and rail services, which will come into effect on Good Friday (April 2).
It sees an overall ten per cent average rise in fares and the introduction of a new category, which will enable passengers to travel up to three stops on bus routes, for 50 pence.
It's hoped the move will benefit those who use the buses for short journeys.
Mr O'Friel says the 'jury is out' on how effective that rate will be, but is applauding the introduction of more flexibility into the system.
