Chief minister to 'back up' Tynwald statement?

by isleofman.com 30th March 2010

Public sector pensions, arrangements for TT 2010 and private airstrips are among the issues being examined during question time in the House of Keys today.

There are a total of 18 questions, two thirds of them for oral answer, and members are also due to give second readings to the Electricity (Amendment) Bill and the Civil Partnership Bill.

Onchan MHK Peter Karran has three questions on the review of public sector pensions, including why a proposal to set up a fund to help cover their cost has been withdrawn.

He is also asking the chief minister to back up a statement in Tynwald earlier this month, in connection with the United Kingdom's decision to extend the Reciprocal Health Agreement by six months.

Mr Karran is reminding Tony Brown he said UK Secretary of State for Health Andy Burnham had been reflecting on a recent meeting, and had accepted arguments put forward by Mr Brown and Health Minister Eddie Teare.

North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson is asking the tourism and leisure minister what arrangements are in place to avoid a repetition of the sodden paddock area and camping ground behind the TT grandstand, which was a problem at last year's Manx Grand Prix.

He also has questions about the lack of bar facilities at the Villa Marina and legislation governing private airstrips.

Question time in the House of Keys begins at 10am and is broadcast live on Manx Radio's 1368 AM service.

There's also a sitting of the Legislative Council today, where the Marriage and Civil Registration Bill, in the charge of Eddie Lowey, is down for second reading.
