The Manx Electricity Authority's educational programme 'Electrical Journey' is proving a great success.
The programme was launched last year by the authority's Network Services Team and so far has been seen by over 500 year six pupils in 15 of the Island's primary schools.
Last week, deputy chairman of the MEA, Eddie Lowey MLC, attended Victoria Road School in Castletown to help raise awareness of the programme.
The presentation follows the journey of electricity, explaining how it gets from the power station to homes, via the MEA’s substations and its network of cables and wires.
There's also a demonstration of safety equipment used by MEA engineers and the dangers of overhead lines used to transmit electricity within the community.
Mr Lowey says the programme has proved to be extremely popular with both teachers and children with a further seven schools scheduled for sessions before the end of the summer term.
Pupils are left with a better knowledge of electricity and a strong safety message about electricity supply equipment within the community.
Anyone interested in booking the programme can contact the authority’s education coordinator, Stephen Oates on 687923.
