World Bonnag Making Championships tonight

by isleofman.com 27th March 2010

A peculiarly Manx championship takes place deep in the heart of darkest Dalby today.

Contestants will be buttering-up for the ultimate bun fight - the World Bonnag Making Championships.

The Championships start at 7.30pm in Dalby schoolrooms and will feature music from 'Strengyn' and ballads from Fiona Cain.

There are classes for children, men and women and the overall winner will receive the Isle of Man Creameries Trophy.

The evening will be hosted by John Kennaugh who will be performing some Manx recitations.

John says it's a great night for a uniquely Manx dish.

Contestants should bring their bonnag along to the concert in the evening on a paper plate with their name and category written on the base of the plate.

Admission is ?6.50 (?3 for children) which includes a Shepherd's Pie supper with tea, cakes and bonnag. All entries will be auctioned during the evening to help raise funds for the Peel Lifeboat, Send a Cow charity and the St James' church and restoration fund.
