An informal viewing of new apartments nearing completion at Reayrt y Sheear (pictured) was recently held for members and officers of Douglas Borough Council and representatives from the Department of Local Government and the Environment (DLGE).
The 16 two-bedroom apartments form part of a development at Johnny Watterson’s Lane built by DLGE and will be handed over to the Council to provide public sector housing for tenants aged over 50.
The apartments will be offered in the first instance to tenants occupying Council properties in Willaston looking to downsize from family-sized to smaller accommodation.
Public Health and Housing Committee Chairman Councillor Colin Cain said, "The apartments offer exceptional comfort and convenience where the ground-floor units have been designed to be wheelchair-friendly.
"These apartments will not only be a welcome addition to our housing stock but will also free up properties we can allocate to larger households on our housing list."
DLGE Chairman of Estates and Housing Tim Crookall said, "It’s always good to see a new development come to completion and feedback from residents has been extremely positive.
"This development has been sensitively landscaped, is situated near to a bus route, and convenient for the shops at Willaston and the medical centre at Governor’s Hill."
Mr Crookall’s colleague, Debbie Reeve, Director of Estates and Housing, added, "Reayrt y Sheear is a triumph of partnership working, a high quality development providing homes for a broad mix of residents, from first-time buyers to families and older people.
