MLC hands over cash from Cockfield Trust

A number of charities in the Isle of Man have received donations, thanks to the generosity of the late Lord Cockfield.

The former Isle of Man resident, who died in 2007 at the age of 92, was Minister of State at the Treasury in Margaret Thatcher's government, Secretary of State for Trade, and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.

Member of the Legislative Council Eddie Lowey was a friend of Lord Cockfield and his wife Monica for many years, and handed over the donations on behalf of the Cockfield Trust.

Beneficiaries included the Manx Ballet Company, St John Ambulance and the Isle of Man Children's Centre.

Mr Lowey says the couple considered the Island their home, and would have approved of the recipients:
