Post Office 'Welfare' Helps Host of Charities

by isleofman.com 25th March 2010

Members of Isle of Man Post Office’s Welfare Society have donated a generous £1,500 to various charities.

The Society is independent of the business and is operated by and for staff of Isle of Man Post Office.  Members of the society pay a subscription of £1 per month, which goes towards paying members who are off work long-term and, at the committee’s discretion, helps members in need or distress.

In addition, the Society makes annual donations to a wide variety of charities both on and off the Island.

The Isle of Man Post Office Welfare Society has just donated £100 each to 15 charities including Hospice Isle of Man, Manx Blind Welfare Society, Manx Cancer Help Association, Manx Diabetic Group, Noble’s Hospital Children’s Ward, Friends of Robert Owen House, Wirral Manx Society and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Treasurer of the society Keith Green said, "The society has been in existence for more than 30 years and has benefited many employees of Isle of Man Post Office during this time.

"The beauty of the society is that it’s completely run voluntary by employees of Isle of Man Post Office and benefits those members of staff who pay a monthly subscription of just £1.

"Every year the society makes donations to various charities and this year we are delighted to have been able to help a total of 15 charities that rely on donations to continue the good and invaluable work they do."
