Contractors take care to avoid connector cable

Developers of a new health centre in Blackpool are having to tread carefully as work on the project gets under way.

The site, at Moor Park, is right on top of where the electricity cable linking the Isle of Man to the United Kingdom's national grid system comes ashore.

The AC submarine cable which, at 63 miles is the longest in the world, runs from Douglas Head to Bispham and was switched on ten years ago.

Project manager for contractors Pochins, Terry Hazelhurst, has known about it since the early days of the project, and says there is no danger of it being damaged:
