Industry supports fisheries appointment

by isleofman.com 24th March 2010

The planned appointment of a 'Seafoods Champion' is great news for the Island's fishermen, according to Tom Bryan-Brown of the Manx Fish Producers' Association.

The post is being created by the Fisheries Division of DAFF, and responsibilities would include promoting the local industry throughout Europe, implementing a marketing plan, and devising a brand and a marketing campaign to support it.

Mr Bryan-Brown says the move comes off the back of similar successful campaigns in Cornwall and Scotland (play audio file):

Application forms can be downloaded from the Manx government's website (gov.im) or obtained from director of fisheries Andy Read, on 685837.

The closing date is April 14.

The Manx seafood sector supports 250 local jobs, with the vast majority of catches being exported, mainly to the United Kingdom, France and Spain.
