By-election advice from sitting member

by isleofman.com 24th March 2010

East Douglas MHK Brenda Cannell is expressing surprise that it will take so long to hold a by-election in her constituency, following the elevation of Phil Braidwood to the Legislative Council.

The date has been fixed for May 27, more than ten weeks after the position was vacated.

Mrs Cannell says she doesn't mind the extra work which comes with currently being the only MHK in the constituency, but has been taken aback by the late date.

She says, with at least five candidates, there's no doubt the vote will be split, but adds there's one thing they will all have to do (play audio file):

The five people who have declared so far are Kate Beecroft, Colin Cain, John Joughin, Chris Robertshaw and Kevin Woodford.

Nominations close on April 27.
