by isleofman.com 20th March 2010

Three Ballakermeen High School pupils have ventured into the daunting world of public speaking - and come out on top!

Gina Clarke, Caitlin Maddrell and Thomas Shirtliff were crowned winners of this year's Island secondary schools public speaking competition, supported by the Rotary Club of Douglas.

They took the winning trophy – and a cheque for ?500 for their school – with a speech about luck.

Caitlin entertained the crowd with her speech and afterwards judge Julie Young from Arbory School said the competition was great training for later life.
