by isleofman.com 20th March 2010

Rushen retained their 11 point lead at the top of the Sure Mobile Premier League after winning an eight goal thriller at Gymns on Saturday.

Doubles from Ted Pepper and Josh Kelly and one from skipper Paul Jones sealed a 5-3 victory.

Nick Bowden and Ciaran McNulty (two) kept battling Gymns in touch after they trailed 3-0 at one stage but Rushen took the points.

Goals from Ashley Webster and Jamie Clague sealed a 2-0 victory for second placed Laxey at battling St John’s, who remain clear of the relegation zone on goal difference.

There was drama at Douglas Road as Kevin Megson scored a last minute penalty for Peel to end the spirited resistance of Corinthians and climb to third.

Reigning champions St George’s are up to fourth after a 3-1 victory over Old Boys in a repeat of last season’s FA Cup Final.

James McStay, Callum Morrissey and Chris Bass junior were on target for the Geordies with Robbie Ward scoring the Old Boys goal from the penalty spot.

Chris Murdoch was the hero as Union Mills secured their first points of the season.

A week after being relegated, they overcame a half-time deficit to defeat Michael.

Nathan Jones had put Michael ahead but Murdoch secured a rare day to enjoy for Mills and ensure Michael remain in the drop zone.

Castletown produced one of their best showings of the campaign with a 5-0 romp at nine-man Ramsey.

An Alex Crawley hat-trick and one each from Mike Edge and Jack Charmer on a fine day for the southerners.
