Heavy duty electricity cables stolen

by isleofman.com 19th March 2010

Police in Ramsey are investigating the theft of a large quantity of high voltage overhead power cable.

It was taken from a site in Maughold between 4.30pm on Wednesday and 8.30am yesterday.

The cable is described as being seven strand 20mm copper cable and will be of a green colour where it has oxidised.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone with information, but especially those in the scrap metal trade who may be able to shed light on the matter.

They say the wire was divided into bundles weighing about a ton and would have required a van or light commercial vehicle to remove.

There are also certain aspects of it which will distinguish it from normal electrical cable.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ramsey Police Station on 812234 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
