Groves Road fire - inquiry launched

by isleofman.com 18th March 2010

Police have launched an investigation after an intense fire partly destroyed the former Groves Road store in Douglas overnight.

Fire crews were called out just before 2.40am and were at the scene for three hours after a fire alarm at the National Sports Centre opposite was activated.

By then, 10 foot flames could be clearly seen and had burnt through the roof which partly collapsed.

There was also severe fire damage to the first floor at the back of the premises.

Police say the cause is as yet unknown and they’re keeping an open mind.
