by isleofman.com 20th March 2010

The Barrovian Hall at King William’s College was the delightful setting on Saturday 13th March for the Buchan School’s superb Manx Gourmet Dinner.

The occasion was a fund raising evening for Friends at Buchan, organised by two Buchan School mothers, Ann Atkinson and Fiona Tipper.

Friends at Buchan or FAB as they are better known is the fund raising arm of The Buchan School, and was founded in 2005.

The headline sponsor for the evening was Buchanan BMW who used the occasion to launch the new BMW 5 Series, almost a week ahead of its UK national launch campaign.

The 5 Series, together with 11 other BMWs and Minis, were displayed in the magnificent King’s Court at King William’s College for all guests to view upon their arrival.

Simon Skillan, Sales Manager at Buchanan BMW commented, "We were very proud to sponsor the gourmet Dinner and felt that it was an excellent event and location to debut the new BMW 5 Series.

"We are always very keen to support local causes and we hope that our sponsorship of the event will help FAB succeed in their goals."

Guests at the event included notable figures such as the Chief Minister Tony Brown MHK, various sponsors of the event, plus gathered alumni from both the Buchan School and King William’s College.

Upon arrival, guests were greeted with a superb champagne reception that was generously sponsored by Ramsey Crookall & Co.

Dinner at the event was focused around celebrating the best of Manx produce, including queenies from Paddy’s Market in Port St Mary; fillet of Loaghtan lamb from the Manx Loaghtan Breed Society; and sweet treats from Cocoa Red.

Throughout the evening, guests were captivated by entertainment including a jazz quartet.  A raffle and auction were also held, successfully raising funds for FAB.

Ann and Fiona, the organisers of the event, commented, "We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the generous sponsors and supporters of the evening, as well as all guests who attended the event, who ensured it was an enjoyable and successful evening."

The evening raised funds of ?8,290.81, which will be put towards a minibus for The Buchan School.
