County Durham’s Dave Prins became the 25th birthday winner of the Isle of Man International Darts Championship after whitewashing Dutchman Joey ten Berg 3-0 at the Villa Marina.
Joining Prins on the victory podium was Welsh international Julie Gore, who produced a first class display to topple former world number one Deta Hedman in a thrilling five leg match.
Both singles finals were a fitting climax to a weekend of top class action, marking a quarter of a century of darting festivals promoted by Lancashire darts promoter Les France on behalf of the Island’s Department of Tourism and Leisure.
Tourism Minister Martyn Quayle MHK praised Mr France for helping to establish the festival on the world darts calendar and as an important fixture in the Isle of Man tourist year: "The annual Darts Championship held on the Isle of Man is a fantastic opportunity for the Island to welcome people from all over the world of darts.
"It is through the hard work and dedication of individuals, such as Les France that these events are such a resounding success."
Mr Quayle then presented the darts promoter with a cut glass plaque in appreciation of his work over the past quarter of century.
Gore’s win meant she became the first player – either male or female – to record four successive wins in a singles event at the Manx tournament.
The Men's Singles attracted a starting entry of more than 500 hopefuls. Three Manx players reached the last 64 – Charlie Clover, Tony Barker and Robbie Nelson – but saw their dreams dashed as the surge to the stage continued.
Prins claimed victory in the Men's Singles final from Dutchman Joey ten Berg.
The trophy presentation was made by Martyn Quayle MHK and Member for the Department of Tourism Geoff Corkish MHK MBE.
