Island on 'right track' in drug battle

by isleofman.com 17th March 2010

An expert on the issue of so-called 'legal highs' believes drugs such as mephedrone should be made illegal.

Alan Johnson from the Scottish Training on Drugs and Alcohol Strategy is on the Isle of Man to give two seminars to raise public awareness on the danger of such drugs.

There have been growing calls in the UK for the legal drug mephedrone to be banned, following the deaths of two teenagers in Scunthorpe who it's thought had taken the drug.

The Isle of Man has already outlawed drugs such as BZP and Spice and has taken steps to clamp down on the trade in the drug. It's hoped to make it illegal shortly.

Mr Johnson says the Island is on the right track.
