Peel Films Support Anne Frank Exhibition

by isleofman.com 17th March 2010

Following their screening of The Pianist, Films in Peel continue their support of the Anne Frank [+You} IOM Exhibition this evening at 6.30pm (Wednesday 17th March) with The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (Cert 12A).

This will be followed on Saturday 27th March, at 2pm, by Anne Frank: The Whole Story (Cert 12).

An award-winning film set during World War II, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas tells the tale of a small boy called Bruno whose father is the commandant of a concentration camp.

The story centres on the friendship that develops between Bruno and a young Jewish boy, Shmuel and the slow realisation in Bruno’s mind of the fate that awaits his new friend.  The screening has been organised at the earlier time of 6.30pm so that children of 12 and over can attend.

Anne Frank: The Whole Story is a moving, televisual account of the life of Anne Frank during the Holocaust, starring Ben Kingsley and Brenda Blethyn.

A powerful depiction of the futility of discrimination, the film shows how Anne has come to be symbol of her people and her generation, and makes a fitting companion to the exhibition at St German's Cathedral.

Morris Dancing at the Movies

On a more lighthearted note, Films in Peel will be screening the Isle of Man premiere of Morris: A Life with Bells On (Cert 12), will be shown on Wednesday 31st March at the usual time of 7.45pm.

This hugely entertaining 'mockumentary' follows the fortunes of an avant-garde Morris team in their effort to evolve Morris dancing.

"You don’t have to know a lot about folk dance or be a die hard fan of Morris dancing to enjoy this film: if you want to have a good laugh, see some beautiful English countryside and old customs then don’t miss your first and probably last chance to see it on the big screen on the Isle of Man!"

Tickets are available in advance from Celtic Gold (Peel), Shakti Man (Ramsey), Thompson Travel (Port Erin) and Peter Norris and Mostly Manx (Douglas), ?4 full price and ?3 concessions.

Any unsold tickets available on the door.  Doors open half an hour before the film is due to start.
