The House of Keys has the chance to make history today – as it elects four members of the Legislative Council.
With a new bill on the way suggesting Tynwald’s upper chamber be elected by the people of the Island rather than by Keys members, it could be the last ever council election to involve MHKs.
And it shouldn’t take eight weeks to vote as it did last time around, as new procedures simplify the process.
Clerk of Tynwald Roger Phillips says nominations can come from the floor of House of Keys if there’s a stalemate:
