Douglas Council has voted to give the Freedom of the Borough to the 12th Regiment Royal Artillery.
The honour was confirmed by council members at a meeting in the Town Hall on Wednesday.
The regiment is the official ‘recruiting’ battalion for the Isle of Man, as well as Lancashire and Cumbria, and has a number of Manx soldiers serving in it.
A date has yet to be confirmed for the ceremony which will mark the occasion.
