Travelwatch disappointed with train ticket price hike

A passenger group in the Island says it hopes a huge price hike in season tickets for trains won’t put people off using them.

The Department of Tourism and Leisure has announced the residents’ tickets, which go on sale today, will cost ?50.

Last year they were just ?37.

Chairman of Travelwatch Brendan O’Friel says the huge rise could end up discouraging passengers from buying the passes.

He says the move is disappointing but not entirely unexpected given the state of government finances:
