It's Good to Make Friends with Manx Heritage

by isleofman.com 13th March 2010

Manx National Heritage is encouraging Island residents to join the ranks of 'Friends'.

By becoming a 'Friend' of MNH, you gain free entry into all the Heritage sites around the Island, such as Castle Rushen and Laxey Wheel.

For parents, this means that you can accompany your child on visits at no cost, as all Manx schoolchildren have now been issued with an 'ACE' pass.

A visit to any of the Island's heritage sites makes a great day out for all the family, for instance during half term or the summer holidays.

MNH membership also means that you will receive email notification of forthcoming special events and be entitled to free or reduced admission to either National Trust or English Heritage properties.  (Please note, however, that the children’s ACE card does not give them access to National Trust or English Heritage properties).

The Friends also encourage volunteers to get involved with helping to preserve our heritage for future generations.

A very varied programme of volunteer opportunities has significantly grown over the last few years.

Meeting and greeting visitors at MNH events, preparing and taking part in educational workshops and assisting in the Library with various exciting projects - are but a few.

The camaraderie and opportunities for involvement are fun in themselves – but Friends also have a whole programme of their own social events, which are always extremely popular.

Nicola Pemberton, Development and Administration Officer of the Friends of Manx National Heritage, says, "With all the Story of Mann sites opening on the 2nd April why not join the Friends of Manx National Heritage right now – and start enjoying the fun and the benefits".

If you are interested in joining Friends of Manx National Heritage you can pick up a form at any of the Story of Mann sites, contact Nicola Pemberton, on (01624) 824137 or download a leaflet from the website www.friendsofmnh.org
