I've not had enough help, vows party leader

by isleofman.com 12th March 2010

The leader of the Liberal Vannin Party says he’s received insufficient help from the Attorney General's Chambers as he bids to introduce a travel levy to cover medical insurance.

Last month, the House of Keys gave Peter Karran unanimous support to bring forward a bill to introduce a levy on all flights and sailings from the Island to pay for residents healthcare while in the UK.

He so far hasn't submitted the bill - aimed to allay concerns surrounding the ending of the Reciprocal Health Agreement - and his party alleges it’s because of a lack of assistance.

In Tynwald next week, Health Minister Eddie Teare will come forward with his own safety-net scheme for those who can't get travel insurance.

However, Mr Karran says that is misleading.

Earlier this week, the Health Minister said Mr Karran’s bill always had top priority for government draftsmen.
