Anne Craine says she has the right experience to carry out the spending cuts needed through government.
Mrs Craine will move from the education department to the the top job in the Isle of Man Treasury in April.
She's welcomed the ministerial re-shuffle and says she's not daunted by the issues stacking-up in her in-tray at the Treasury.
The loss of millions of pounds in VAT revenue is putting a big strain on public spending - with cuts in virtually every department inevitable.
