Police out to catch Richmond Hill speeders

by isleofman.com 10th March 2010

Drivers are being warned to stick to the temporary 30mph speed limit on Richmond Hill, which is in place while the road improvement scheme is carried out.

The DoT says since the road works began, a total of seven motorists have been reported for speeding through the works, adding these cases will be fast tracked through the courts to prosecution.

The police will continue to monitor the situation at Richmond Hill as the scheme progresses.

Police increased patrols in the area, using speed guns, after site managers became concerned about the speed traffic was going at there.

Sergeant Dave Dobbie of the Roads Policing Unit is urging drivers to abide by the speed limit.

He says the changes to the road layout, people working in the area and the recent poor weather all increase the risk on this section of road.

The amount of people reported for speeding through the roadworks, he says, is alarming and will not be tolerated.

Both high visibility speed enforcement and the use of unmarked vehicles will be used to ensure people stick to the limit.
