The Buchan School has triumphed for the third year in succession in the Isle of Man Scottish Widows national tag rugby finals tournament.
Teams from seven schools competed in the finals held on Wednesday 24th February at the NSC: The Buchan, runners-up Marown, Cronk-y-Berry, Dhoon, Peel Clothworkers’, Scoill Ree Gorree and St Mary’s.
Presenting the trophies was CMI managing director Dean Waddingham, a former rugby player with the Leicester Tigers.
Mr Waddingham said, "This is the third year CMI has sponsored the tournament, albeit under the Scottish Widows brand this year, an event that complements our long-term commitment to support the Island’s young people in sporting and educational initiatives.
"The quality of play of the qualifying teams was of a very high standard and congratulations must go not only to Buchan but also to Marown who fought such a closely contested match. The enthusiasm of all the players combined with the tremendous support of the teachers made for another great tournament."
The Buchan School now holds the title Isle of Man Scottish Widows national primary school tag rugby champions and will be entered into the English national tag rugby finals to be held at Rugby School, Warwickshire later this year.
Mr Waddingham concluded, "With the obvious improvement in standards year on year, I can see the Isle of Man champions being very competitive when they reach the event at Rugby School."
