Travel Updates on Display

by isleofman.com 9th March 2010

Two new digital displays have been installed on both ends of the Sea Terminal Building to provide additional up to date travel information to members of the public.

The new matrix signs will primarily be used to provide updates on ferry arrival and departure times, with date, time and temperature also displayed.

Other information that the Department would like to communicate to the public can also be displayed, in a similar way to the matrix signs on roads such as Douglas Promenade, to warn of road closures and provide other travel information.

Rodney Christopher, Director of Properties said, "The new matrix signs have been installed at the Sea Terminal to act as a full digital passenger information system that can double up to provide essential information from the Department to the travelling public.

"At present we are still testing the system and the series of links needed to control the signs, which is why they are currently just displaying the date and time.

"The signs will be controlled from the Marine Operations Centre on a standalone system and will be used to relay messages from a number of Divisions and operations including Highways, Harbours, Road Safety and Works."
