The public's views have helped shape the new regulations governing the use of Sulby Claddagh, says the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

Overwhelmingly, feedback given by people on the site's future said it should remain open to campers.

Subject to Tynwald approval later this month, the byelaws will come into effect in time for the start of the new camping season on May first.

Key changes include a reduced camping area, no littering and a ban on running generators overnight.

A camping permit system is also to be introduced, to maintain a record of those who stay there.

DAFF says it's introducing a later start to the season, May first, to try and protect the ground more.

Minister Phil Gawne says while he understands the proposed changes won't be welcomed by all users of the Claddagh, it's important to remember camping at the site is a privilege, not a right.
