Peel oppose sewage plans

by isleofman.com 3rd March 2010

Granting a licence for a sewage plant for a new housing development in Peel would not have the backing of the town’s commissioners.

Dandara is building 43 homes in the first phase of a much bigger housing project which includes its own water treatment works - currently the subject of a public consultation.

However, commissioners last night (Tuesday) unanimously opposed the sewage plans and also asked the Department of Local Government and Environment to add two clauses, should permission be granted for the development.

They are: a ?50,000 bond to cover the clean-up of any spill and a seven day storage facility in the event of a failure of the system.

The consultation is open until April 1 and responses should be addressed to the department.

The commissioners' chairman is Rodger Gimbert.
