MHKs clash over Manx Radio subvention

Manx Radio’s funding came under the spotlight in the House of Keys this morning, after this year’s subvention was cut by 1.8 per cent.

Michael MHK David Cannan demanded to know why the ?978,000 payment hadn’t been reduced further, when government departments were being asked to save seven per cent this year.

Treasury minister Allan Bell said departments were in fact being asked to cut just four per cent of spending, and Manx Radio’s savings this year would amount to 4.8 per cent.

But he and Mr Cannan further clashed about Manx Radio’s impartiality:
