Wide range of issues on Keys agenda

by isleofman.com 2nd March 2010

The House of Keys sits this morning (Tuesday) with electricity price hikes firmly on the agenda.

A seven per cent price rise announced by the Manx Electricity Authority during this year’s budget will be the subject of four questions from North Douglas MHK John Houghton.

Another issue which came up during the budget debate will be raised by Michael MHK David Cannan as he quizzes Treasury Minister Allan Bell about contracting out the government’s bars and cafes.

There are 12 questions for oral answer and four for written answer on this morning’s order paper.

As well as that, Treasury member Phil Braidwood will bring forward the gambling supervision bill and is due to go through the clauses of the marriage and civil registration bill (although that could be deferred), while Treasury Minister Allan Bell will bring the civil partnership bill for its second reading.

It’s set to be a busy session for Mr Bell as he faces questions from Onchan MHK Peter Karran about commercial confidentiality in government contracts.

Manx Radio will have live coverage of this morning’s Keys questions on our AM 1368 frequency starting at 10am.
