The fifth Medis 'It’s a Knockout' Challenge 2010 was launched today (1st March) with the announcement of the two charities which will benefit from one of the Island’s most successful fundraising events.
The challenge involves teams of between six and ten people competing in an event based on the famous BBC It’s a Knockout programme, which dominated the summer TV schedules in the 1970s and 1980s.
As this year also marks Medis’ tenth year of operation on the Island, there are plans to make this Knockout the biggest and best yet.
All proceeds from the event go to local Island charities, and representatives from this year’s nominated beneficiaries, Crossroads Caring for Carers, and The Children's Centre, joined Medis Managing Director, Stuart Colligon, to kick off the 2010 Challenge.
This year’s event will take place at Noble’s Park, Douglas, on Sunday 11th July. Any organisation in the private, public, or charity sector can enter a team; even a group of friends, or members of a club can take part. Over the years, many of the Island’s top companies have taken up the Knockout Challenge which, to date, has raised over £30,000 for local charities.
"Last year alone," said Stuart Colligon, "we raised over £9,000 and in this, our tenth anniversary year, we hope to do even better. I’d encourage everyone to think about taking part. Entering a team has lots of benefits for any organisation but, as important, it’s fantastic fun for the teams and for the spectators".
Karen Davies from Crossroads Caring for Carers, said, "We are delighted to be one of the nominated charities which will benefit from the It’s a Knockout Challenge, what could be better than raising money and having fun at the same time?"
Echoing the same point, Michelle O’Malley from The Children’s Centre, said, "We are so pleased that Medis has selected us to be one of the beneficiaries. We’d encourage everyone to take part, or to come along to what really is a great day out."
Asked why Medis promoted the event, Stuart Colligon, said, "We are lucky to be based on the Isle of Man and we aim, through a range of charity events and other inititiatives to put something back into the community that supports our business".
