Justice committee to visit Island today

by isleofman.com 25th February 2010

A group of MPs from the House of Commons Justice Committee will informally meet Tynwald members this afternoon (Thursday).

The committee, chaired by Liberal Democrat MP Sir Alan Beith, is examining Britain’s relationship with the crown dependencies and is including the cancellation of the Reciprocal Health Agreement as part of that process.

It's understood a number of Tynwald members may use the gathering to lobby for a six month retention of the agreement, whilst a new agreement can be negotiated.

From April, Manx residents will have to pay for medical treatment in the UK, apart from accident and emergency care and scheduled referrals for specialist treatment.
