Island at the heart of psychoactive drug debate

by isleofman.com 24th February 2010

The issue of so called 'legal highs' will be under the spotlight today, at a gathering of government officials from across the British Isles.

Politicians will use a ministerial meeting of the British-Irish Council in the Isle of Man to discuss measures to combat the use of psychoactive substances.

The meeting will be chaired by the junior minister with responsibility for Ireland's national drugs strategy, John Curran, who says the issue is an ongoing concern throughout the eight administrations of the council.

Last week, Tynwald approved legislation to begin outlawing the 'legal high' drug mephedrone, also known as 'plant food'.
